Ants have a habit of challenging our level of co-operation. This article discusses the self organisation of ants without the need for a leader. 

David Hu and collaborators at the Georgia Institute of Technology have been observing fire ants and their remarkable co-operation to construct live ant bridges and towers to reach a common goal.
