Formicarium Made From A Soda Bottle
Proving again that keeping ants doesn't have to be expensive, we stumbled on this formicarium made from a soda bottle.
We love seeing cheap, easy to make equipment and it doesn't get much simpler than this. Facebook user Efren Bonne Rivera Agatep, has fashioned a versatile ant farm from a plastic bottle.
Looking like a mad science experiment, it appears as though the bottle has had the top cut off and then the bottom section filled with grout, or another similar substance. This creates the ground with which the ants will forage. A small hole cut into the side of the bottle accepts the test tube that houses the actual nest area.
By removing the cap on the bottle you are able to feed the ants and perform any maintenance that is required.
We love the creativity, simplicity and affordability of this design.
In Part 3 we take a look at identifying the species.
